On behalf of the band , I'd like to give the teachers a very big
THANK YOU !
For supporting the band and managing everything even though one of whom was sort of sick and another teacher who had to spend her birthday in school.
I'd also like to say sorry to the teachers for the band's overall behaviour and conduct . But all in all , in my opinion I think the band has gain new knowledge and what it means to be a team and also the fact that whatever they do someone is always there to either guide them or open their eyes be it technical playing or life values .

Archery was held beside teck whye sec.

Hey people !

so how was the performance just now?
I'm sure a handful of you would say it was boring.
Anyway, did those people inspire you?
Well, if you work hard enough, maybe someday
you'll be the one performing there! :P
So anyway, hope you guys learnt something there ya?
Or at least, experience what it's like to be in a concert
hall with awesome acoustics.
The performers were great. their performance
was awesome isn't it? Hopefully trumpeters will
pick up something new there.
the trumpeter's articulation was really good, clear
tonguing isn't it?
Sadly, our one and only bassoon player wasn't there.
He missed out so much about his wonderful instrument.
Anyway, that's how a bassoon sound like, in case you guys
didn't know :) Nice isn't it? Mellow sound.
the flautist's performance was impressive right?
I hope those performers inspired all of you,
Everyone can excel, as long as they try hard enough :D
I hope everyone learnt something there! :))

Hope you people are burning with drive hard passion now,
to know more about music, and to improve your music
playing, and also make music instead of just... Well you know
what i mean :D

SYF'S OVER!

Hey people!

syf's over! after months and months of preparation,
after all the scoldings and praises that we had, it's finally OVER!
how do you all feel huh? for those who feel guilty or sad, don't. :)
even though there may be mistakes here and there, but!
you know you've done your best, and like what mr han said,
the results/outcome are secondary. We gave it our best shot and we left
the stage with no regrets! and most of all WE ENJOYED OURSELVES.
WELL DONE PEOPLE! :)

clarinets; all of you have made tremendous improvement in terms
of tone after all these months of hard work and training. everyone
of you brought home your instruments to practice :)

french horns; all of you have made great improvement in terms of tone
after all these months of hard work and training. there's a big difference
in all of your playing before syf and now.

trumpets! all of you did a wonderful job just now. even though you all might
seem not to care about band, syf and what mr han taught you all through all
the practices, but you all still performed well and did a great job at bar 109
in legend of the ancient hero. :)
(according to yihong.)

percussion; mr han took the risk of letting you guys play loud for legend of the
ancient hero,but it is the worth try. Mr han thinks he have made the right decision
to let you guys play forte for legend of the ancient hero, because you guys dont seem to
add on to any negative effects on the band, and in fact, it was a positive one.

and overall,
Mr han thinks that after this syf, we proved to others that we are able to express what we wanna show to the audience from the piece. (according to yihong.)

and i'm quite sure you all saw the wide smile that was plastered on mr han's face
while he was conducting us. and i'm quite sure mr han was very proud of layting's solo :)

through all the tough and tiring trainings, we did it.
Even though we did not achieve a gold, but we got what we want.
and that is our tremendous improvement over the past few months.

I hope you people enjoyed yourselves to the fullest,
and also congrats to us for our silver!

HELLO! Today's work was really back breaking! (literally)
only 7 people turned up. but szeling left half way, so 6 people

NieSB Concert!

HELLOH GUYS! Alright! There will be a NieSB Concert on 27th December, Saturday. The venue will be at NTU Auditorium. Price of each ticket is $10.

It's strongly encouraged to go and listen better sounds, so that we can work towards what we want in band. The venue is around Jurong area too. Kinda convenient for some ;DD Plus it'd be great if we could make it into something like a band outing ! =) Gena and Weijie, our graduated seniors will be performing on stage too! Try to give them your support yeahs? =)

Dramatic and powerful, LEGEND OF THE ANCIENT HERO tells the musical story of a warrior in ancient times who risked his life to save his country from being conquered. Combined with exciting rhythmic elements and a contrasting lyrical section, this programmatic work will definitely be the highlight in your band concert, contest or festival performances! Solos for flute, trumpet and saxophone also provide opportunities to feature the best in your band. Simply exceptional!

Written in seven short movements, the piece depicts the story of a young warrior who travelled far to the battlefied from his kingdom leading his army troops on galloping horses. At the war-front, a distant bugle call and the war drums are heard signifying the start of the war. Tension begins and both troops started attack as they galloped towards each other on their horses. Chaos and bloodshed are marked by clashing dissonances and irregular meters in the music. As the war comes to an end, soldiers who lost their lives covered the battlefied in red. The aftermath of the war is a tragic one although peace on the ground resumes. The beauty of the main theme is heard as it reaches the climax giving its highest tribute to the Hero. The country is saved and the people sees hope in starting their new lives. However, the Hero has not been forgotten. His “un-perished” spirit remained in the people’s heart and his name lives forever as the piece approaches to an exciting end.

Sze Ling's thoughts ...

Hey Band .....

those who thought that i was reprimanding the band just now.. lolx .. then i think i should apologise ...

i wasn't trying to scold the band for our attitude or what ( although it may be too noisy at times ) i was just trying to set the tone right ... the part which i almost cried wasn't because of you guys ok ????? i was just thinking back in the past when doctor lee was still here .... how much we spent our limited energy in band ... then now .. we turn to SLACKERS !!! lols .... (heard many were shocked when i cried ... lolx .. sorry to shock you guys ... wasn't intentional )

after the so-called 'lecture' it send me into deep thoughts about this band... i realise that we indeed have alot of potential ... we have alot of star players (leon, eunice , michelle, smita , azam etc etc) its just whether are we willing to go the extra mile to strive for the best. it also allow me to reflect on how slack i am as a BM ... lolx ... and i think i have not been showing a good role model like what a BM shld do ... ( so apologise again :( ) i even tink it is possible to obtain a silver maybe even a gold !!!! that will be the best gift for those senior who are leaving next year :) :) :)

Hey guys. I believe you guys had enough "lecturings" today, so relax, this post isn't about scoldings. Haha. =) Although I wasn't present in band practice today, I've heard. Sze Ling nearly cried, and I'm sure all of you know that. It seriously isn't easy being in a committee, yet alone a Band Major. But i believe she did her best and is still doing her best now. I wasn't present today as i have TLLM till 6+ and for that, I apologise. About the discipline matters, we really have to buck up on that. You guys do not like to get scoldings either, right? So just have to control abit =) Just remember not to talk when the conductor is talking, or even when he is teaching other sections. We can also learn by listening to what he's teaching others. Let's just all treat today as a learning lesson, and learn from it.

Lets all Strive harder and aim for at least a high Silver next year!! (preferably a Gold =x) And i know we definitely can! =) JIAYOUS JIAYOUS!!

Well , sorry for the lack of updates ! Here they are !

SPLENDID JOB GUYS !!

I'm sure everyone deserves a HUGE round of applause ! What we've been working so hard for really did pay off ! Even though theres a heavy rain mid way while we're playing , the officers and cadets still stood still and march firmly . Our band too , continued our music ! All of us deserve compliments ! Firstly , lets congrats trumpet section for improving ALOT ! ^^ All of us too , improved alot ! and we played much Better than what we played during rehearsals ! It was more intune ! *CLAPS!! What matters most is we all DID OUR BEST ! Even though we have school the next day , you guys didnt complain and instead , was SUPER HIGH ! We received many praises today and i think they'll invite us to play for them again . =x And i'm sure all of us really bonded quite alot this time ! We'll ALWAYS be ONE family ! =)

Anyway , most probably there will be a change in our Choice Piece ! Mr Han gave us 3 options of the songs . First is Eiger , which is a primary school band song , Grade 3 , played by mahabuddi
primary school and got GWH . Secondly , theres Prism , which is a Grade 4 song and has piccolo solo ! And lastly , Panther Fire which is Grade 3 and a half . If i'm not wrong . Soundclick.com has all of the songs above , so go check it out ! We will be working towards our SYF'09 !

WAS GREAT! good job everyone! :)

regarding to Mr Han's speech. i guess, you guys understands why is he so "strict" these few months? if you do, that's great. :)

Pls try to work more on your intonation, tone and techincal skills when you are back for practice.. it'll help alot for the upcoming SYF next year.

Oh yah, before i forget, Eiger is a really touching piece. try not to make it sound like a rock/pop piece. that's a little hint. *winks* i hope that we'll be able to play more challenging pieces! looking really forward!

HEY PEEPS!
today's rehearsal was one of the best-played of Village People Hit Mix by us that i've ever heard of! we really ROCKed in the hall man.

you deserved it! everyone of you! and the recruits, though you guys weren't involved, your dancing was great as well. keep it up!

this will indeed be a rather tiring week for us (bcoz of all the rehearsals -.-) so i hope that we can show some encouragement between one another yea? because we belong together in the same band, the big family.. Oh yah! though there were still some mistakes being made, i'm sure you guys can do even better!

tmr will be the first day of CJ (primary brass band)! let's hope all primary musicians out there do well! :) FYI, Peixin Primary will be playing Ross Roy on the last day of CJ, 10 Apr. if you guys are interested, do let me know. Since Speech day is in 2 weeks time...i kindly urge u ppl to really take every practice and rehearsal seriously. It may not be as important as SYF but keep in mind that there will be audiences too. We want ppl to have a good impression of a band. Unless u guys want ppl to say this is the kind of band that jurong west sec produces then by all means.

Ur teachers, drum major and the seniors have been trying to keep this band together. Yet u ppl are trying to tear it apart. I know everyone wishes to have an enjoyable band practice. Who wouldn't? U ppl complain that band practices are boring coz keep play the same old songs. Ask yourselves, if u ppl have the standard to read thru a manageable piece without stopping, would u guys be working on the same old pieces over and over again?

I just hope those members that see this would really buck up. Not only take responsibility on playing your instrument well, but also the attitude towards ur seniors and teachers.

It takes many years to build a band. But it takes just 1 batch of members with poor attitude to tear it apart.

It's sunday today and it's supposed to be Family Day for all of us. But we went back to school instead. We went to Singapore Conference Hall to have our soundcheck done. Thus, the band have to reached the school at around 2.30-2.45pm. We had our tuning done, warm-ups and touch abit on the songs. We set off at about 4pm. Reached there and wow, we were all serious lah. We dare not waste any time and we concentrate on practising. Well, though we aren't that good enough yet but all of us believe that, we will work extra hard to achieve what we want. Okay, shall update about the 1st band tuition we had on last saturday. We were to report for band latest by 7.30am and all of us were to get ready by 7.50am at our respective places - mainly percussion is using the band room (: Yeps, so all sections would have tutors from ACJC band to guide us. Starting from 8am, the tuition starts and ended at about 11am? But we were released at about 11.35 though. hahas.

band pratice today, as usual those without remidials/classes are to report at 2.40pm.Everyone then did their warming up & tuning. Practiced sunrise then follow by our set piece.everyone packed up at around 6pm.
Miss Ang "brief" us about saturday's tuition.Every section wil be locate at different places, not air-con room this time :P . and, recruits will not be joining us so soon, it will be till next saturday then they will come and join us in our tuition. SO SATURDAY, REPORTING TIME: 7.30AM.

Phew. 2 days of band practice were over. Time passes very very fast eh? For the first day 12Dec', we had band practice with Dr. Lee till 1pm. Instead of practising in the band room, we shifted down to the music terrace for the band practice.Yeps, with our music stands, instruments, files, chairs&for some,mute. It's a great one, though it's veryvery warm. Anyway for 2nd day, as usual we shifted down to the music terrace for the rehearsal. We practised till about 12pm and we were allowed to go for an early lunch break. woots! goodgood. hmm. I've posted some pics up just to let some seniors know what we've been doing.

back with the band camp updates xD. not much pictures on the second and third day. but more on the first and last day.

1ST DAY

everyone reported at 830am. briefings held by miss ang about the room allocations and our
schedule for the day. every section is allocated to each air-con room in the school.after the briefing for the 4 Day band camp, everyone went to their sectionals.Every sections had their own personal tutor, even YUPIN, the only oboe player xD hahs.But for today, the trumpet section will be washing their instruments.Lunch time at 12pm.

After our lunch, went back to the band room for our concert practice and our concepts.Did our warming up excercises instruct by our BM.As our instructor is not here, Mr Teow, the tutor for the Woodwinds/Flute Section came to take over.Got our set piece, look through and play for the first time. Sunrise then Night safari. After that our choice piece.lol, Mr Teow told us that we must play nice in order for him to like the piece. Cause actually it dont sound quite nice.Practice sunrise and safari then dismissed.

2nd DAY

after the everyday short briefings, the Brasses went up to the AVA for their Maintenance Workshop while the WoodWinds went down for their FootDrills taken by Gena[Clarinet SL] and Jonathan[Sax SL/QM].After the footdrills and the workshop, all the sections continue on with their sectionals at their rooms.As for the French Horn, it`s their turn to wash their instruments today.Lunchtime again, everyone got their serve with the help of the dear food servers.Everyone, especially the woodwinds must be very hungry because of their drills xP.Went up for our concert practices and concepts.did warming up excercises again xD.Mr Teow took over today again as our instructor is not feeling well.Touch on Sunrise.Before mr teow go off, he go through our choice piece once again.Although he is in a rush to the other school, he still help us to go through our choice piece EVERYONE SAYS : " Thank You Mr Teow " xD. dismissed early today.

3rd DAY

-briefings-.today's Woodwind turn for their maintenance workshop while the Brasses went for their Foot Drills taken by Clive[DM] and Yingxin[BM].After that, everyone went for their usual sectionals.Today's Tuba and Euphoniums turn to wash their instruments.Lunchtime. served by the dear helpers again n.n''.same everyone especially the brasses must be very hungry because of their drills too.hahs.After our lunch, went up for our concert and concepts.did warming up excercises as usual.Instructor is back today xD!And our Principal, Mr Bala is here too. 4th DAY/BBQ DAY

last day today.. everyone must be feeling very tired, but they endured xD.briefings for the last day, did a combined drill.everyone must be having fun during the drill, cause it`s not tiring but fun!after the drills, sectionals again.and today's trombone turn to wash their instruments.Lunchtime~, everyone, especially EVERYONE is hungry, because of the.. drills!Concert and concepts after that,warming up excercises again, go through our choice piece.Everyone is working hard ..JIAYOU/GAMBATTE.after our concert practice, we are to fill in the evaluation form for the band camp.Forfeits by those who are late during the breaks.they did the hocky pocky dance lols.briefings for our game section later on, everyone is been grouped into different groups.Game facillitator for the groups. They were really great, they even choreographed "The Incredibles".Anyway, we really enjoy the concert. Now, looking forward to the Band four day DAYcamp. updates will be coming up then (:

having band camp next monday.. it's a 4 day band camp..more of a training camp..but having BBQ on the last day night..and games too..so after all the training on the first few day,it's the night whereby we can really have fun..really hope that the whole camp will be a success..and for the food,i think it's pretty nice.. served in a buffet style,first time in band camp.. and have quite a number of variety too..from what Miss Ang said,it sounds not bad..and the good thing is,it's served with dessert!!hope that after the camp we should at least learn something,cos got technicians coming down to teach us how to take care of our instruments,and by then,we are learning our set piece le.. hope that it wouldn't be much of a problem.. going for a concert tomorrow at ACS(independent). heard that it's a nice concert..it's songs is mostly the theme songs from movies.like harry potter,pirates of the carribeans,star wars etc.

2007 SYF Set Piece IS OUT!

Title of Piece: Sunrise and Safari for Concert
BandComposer: Adam Gorb

Time: approx. 8 minutes

Programme Note: This work consists of two movements which may be played together or separately. Each movement lasts around three and a half minutes.The first, Singapore Sunrise, is suitable for school bands, and is based on the Singaporean melody ‘Ikan Kekek’. It’s characterised by a mysterious opening with early-morning birdcalls on woodwinds before the melody takes over and rises to a climax.Night Safari is intended for slightly more advanced bands and is a depiction of Singapore’s world famous Safari Park that can be visited only in the dark. I have tried to capture a sense of excitement and danger as the wild animals are seen (or sometimes just heard) in their natural habitat. The piece is a sort of jazz waltz, but with a lot of surprising sounds!Sunrise and Safari was commissioned as the test piece for concert bands for the Singapore Youth Festival 2007.

okay, that's how long since we last blog? =x Busy with the End-of-Year examinations mah. that's why. Finally have the time to blog.

We had our first band practice during the holidays on mon, 3o0ct. Not that bad actually. Abit sian for the theory =x If there's pics to describe the atmosphere in band room, it would be better. But sadly, there wasn't any. hohos. oh ya. Coincidentally, Dr. Lee's birthday falls on the same day!! wahahahas. so mdm ang or miss ang bought the cake. yumyum. ^^ I bet everyone had a slice of it? If you haven't, then TOO BAD!! >.< Anyway, for those who don't know about when there's band practice, it is under the 'events' category. You may wish to check it out.

Yesterday it's band tuition, whereby the brass and woodwinds were separated for their tuition. For the woodwinds, Mr. Teow is taking them and they are practising in the old band room whereas the brass, were to stay in the band room. Not too bad also lahh. hahas. ended every at 5+? not too sure also. For TODAY. Band practice as usual. Nothing much lo. ** Got picture better, can brighten up the mood of viewers.

it has been long since we updated.and so now we decided to come back and update!
well have our three band practices for the one week holiday.we had foot drill in the early part of the practice as there is N-Level listening going on.
we practiced Spirit Of Life, we didnt manage to complete the whole song during the one week holiday.But, the song may be completed within this week.Everybody bring back their instrument to practice. xD
we will take some pictures during the practice and upload them next time. SEEYA !

FIRST BAND PRACTICE after the 1month' school holiday. Today's practice was quite a fun one. We are going to perform on 6th july, for the don't know what alumi event. yes, chosen 3 songs for the performance, and they are CRAZY LITTLE THING CALL LOVE, I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND and last but not least, LATIN GOLD. =] hahas.
